Organic Schooling

When I began homeschooling many other homeschoolers wanted to know what style of homeschooling we participated in. Parents have the joy of carefully considering the learning styles of each of their children and finding what fits their personalities and what they find enjoyable. I read about Montessori, traditional, Charlotte Mason and more. Although I liked some perspectives in each of these, I felt our family needed something different. The term 'unschooling' and it's description by many unschoolers didn't seem to fit our brood either. When I thought about the organic style of worship our family enjoys is when it dawned on me that our education seemed to fit the same style. We decided to use the term Organic Homeschooling. For us, it's in between homeschooling and unschooling with various approaches specifically designed for each of our children.

We require our children to be diligent in Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic, in a more formatted approach and regular schedule. While our Science, History, and other subjects we learn through a variety of ways including using the Internet, television programs, trips to the Nature Center and various museums. This spring we are looking forward to becoming regular guests in the new Gateway Science Museum in Chico, California.

We want our children to grow up with fond memories of learning in the family atmosphere. We want our home educating to be as natural as possible while having the freedom to still live spontaneously. This gives us plenty of opportunities to learn while traveling. It's been a great journey for our family. Making the decision to home educate has been one of the best decisions we have made for our children.
